Dog Christmas Tips by Betty White, Little Black Dog

Fleas Navidad!

Wreaths
You humans can make a fun wreath using dog tags. You can also make one using dog biscuits. If you use biscuits, be careful if the wreath is outside, some lucky four legged might get at it. If it's inside, don't use anything in it us dogs can't eat if we can get at it.

Remember that common yuletide plants such as poinsettias, mistletoe, ivy and holly berries can make pets really really sick if we eat them!

Pine Cones and Boughs
Ever tire of doggy odor in the winter? Bring in some pine boughs, put them in water on or near the woodstove and the whole place will smell nice and woodsy. Not like something to roll in, more like what humans like.

If you help the human bring in the sticks, try not to chew any up on the rug. It makes a small project for the human to clean up. If you get pine tar or sap on the rug, have them put ice cubes on it and then scrape up. Don't eat the ice cubes until the humans are done with them!

Trees
My Mommy told me that when she was young they had some pets around that climbed the tree, tipped it over and smashed all the family ornaments. Then the cats ate some tinsel and the dog and cat walked on the broken ornaments.

So, I guess you need to be careful if you do the tree thing. Anyway, know that if you have pets, and CATS Catare usually the worst, be careful about breakable ornaments. Because if they break, then we might step on broken pieces, ouch. Some years Mommy said they used wire to secure the tree to the ceiling. Also, don't put tinsel or stuff like that on the tree unless you want to watch it coming out of the cats until spring. If that happens, ick, but don't try to pull it out.

Food
I love food. They say that I am on a seefood diet, see food and eat it! But us dogs really need to be careful around the holidays, and we need our humans to love and take care of us extra special. Don't eat any poultry bones, they are good BUT they can splinter and cause bad things in your tummy. You can get stopped up or it might make a hole inside, and you would have to go to that vet er narry an and that can use up your whole allowance like for a year.

Chocolate can kill us dogs, it's good but sure not worth missing the rest of the action. Us middle aged and older dogs also can get tummy pain and that awful butt squirting for any sudden change of our diet. Also watch out for chewing on that aluminum foil stuff, that can do some bad things inside.

For a special treat, have your human get you some "Frosty Paws". These are frozen treats for dogs, they are so good and special and safe. Mommy says they are in the freezer section at the grocery store, and if you can' t find them they have an 800 number you can call to find out where they are in your town.

Presents
Everyone loves presents, and us dogs are no eggs ception. But you know what we most like? To spend some time with our human, to hear their voice softly just for us, to feel their hands patting us. So if you can take a little time to spend with us, go for a walk and then when we come back it's time for hard goods, like a big rawhide or squeaky toy or something fun! My sister loves tennis balls, so once Mommy asked at the tennis club what they did with old balls and they gave her a HUGE box. That was like a long time ago and she still has lots.

If you want to give a present to a human that has a dog, give them a coupon or something to free up some time so that they can go do something fun with their canine friend.

Winter Walks
If you live where there is snow, and you go out after dinner or furst thing in the morning, have your human check in between your toes for snow when you come back. Also try not to walk where they put that salt stuff down, it can burn your paws.
